What’s the difference between the applicant and co-applicant?

Choosing the co-applicant option is irreversible, so please consider this option carefully before proceeding. Both the applicant and the co-applicant must meet all of the general eligibility requirements, so either partner may be the applicant. Our online application requires that the applicant “own” the application process, meaning they will be responsible for the bulk of the process. Our advice is that the person with the primary source of income be the applicant.

If there is another adult in your household who will be living with you, but will not be a co-owner of the home, that is to say, who will not be on the mortgage, then this adult should be listed as a household member in the Dependents section of the application. Also, don’t forget to include their income in the Monthly Income section as well if applicable.
